Relaxation is on the cards at the adult only Ocean Maya Royale by H10. Just a stone’s throw from the beach and with two pools back at base, there’s plenty of choice for a dip or swim. The two huge swimming pools are surrounded by a terrace of sunloungers. You can see the beach and the Caribbean Sea from both of them. One of the hotel’s two pools has sunloungers sunken into it. The other has a swim-up bar with a great cocktail menu.

At mealtimes, take your pick from a Hacienda-style buffet restaurant, a domed Mexican à la carte, an Italian, and an Oriental restaurant that serves teppanyaki and traditional specialities. Lunch and snacks are served in two places – the poolside El Charro and Mike’s Coffee, where you can get barista-style coffee and cakes.

The Blue team are in charge of the entertainment here. Take part in everything from beach volleyball to kayaking. The hotel has its own PADI Diving Centre*. You pay a little bit more for this, but you can take all the courses here and join dive trips to the local reefs.

At the Despacio Spa Centre* the treatment list ranges from full body massages to petal whirlpool baths. There are massage gazebos on the sand, too.

Rooms are high spec with well stocked minibars and flatscreen TVs. To indulge, upgrade to a room that’s got a Jacuzzi® in the bathroom.
